Flea
& Tick Protection
Warm weather is
here! Your veterinarian has probably already talked with you about flea and tick
protection, as “active” tick season starts in Minnesota as early as April & runs all the way through October. Many veterinarians recommend year round protection.
Protecting pets from fleas
and ticks is an important part of a pet owner’s responsibility to care for a pet’s health and well-being. Aside
from being annoying, these pests can carry diseases, spread to other animals and even people, and infest households quickly.

Although there are many
brands of over-the-counter flea and tick products available at drug stores, groceries and pet supply stores, it is critical
to read their labels, and consult with your veterinarian, before using them. These products may contain ingredients that could
harm pets and/or children.
Beware:
Certain chemicals found in some dog flea and tick protection products can be FATAL to cats. If your dogs come into contact
with kittys, please be certain you check the product labeling carefully and read that the product is safe for cats.
If you suspect your pet
may have suffered negative health effects as a result of a flea product, consult with your veterinarian immediately. If you
think a child has ingested a pesticide, call your local poison control center.
